There’s a certain quiet that settles over Red Hill come late afternoon. Cellar doors close, lunch crowds drift away, and the only sound is the wind moving through the vines. That stillness, paired with some of Victoria’s most thoughtful food and wine, is what makes this hilltop haven one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most rewarding weekend escapes.

Less than 90 minutes from Melbourne, Red Hill invites you to slow down. The pace here runs on vineyard time, and at the heart of it all is Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill, a 40-room estate that’s made for exploration and relaxation.

Dining

Red Hill’s dining scene favours depth over scale. Many restaurants work directly with neighbouring farms and producers, creating menus that shift with the seasons and feel grounded in place.

At Lancemore’s restaurant in Red Hill, The Dining Room, executive chef Nick McGonigal runs a kitchen that balances European technique with Peninsula produce. From Abrolhos scallops with XO sauce to freshly-picked vegetables, there’s something for everyone. The room itself is intimate yet open, lined with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to mature gardens and grapevines.

The lunch service offers a lighter approach with seasonal plates and an atmosphere that suits both a slow afternoon or a post-cellar door pause.

Wine

With volcanic soils and a maritime climate, Red Hill is famed for cool-climate wines. More than 50 cellar doors lie within 15 minutes of the estate, each with its own approach to the region's terroir.

Lindenderry's very own Red Hill winery and cellar door opens weekends from 11 am to 3 pm, pouring wines made from estate-grown grapes. The 5-star Halliday-rated range includes Pinot Noir and cool-climate Chardonnay made from vines that line the property's entrance – the kind of site-specific wine you can only taste here.

The outdoor tasting area overlooks the vines, with firepits lit during cooler months to warm afternoon tastings.

Beyond Lindenderry Estate’s Cellar Door, Montalto pairs wines with seasonal menus and a sculpture garden worth exploring, while Port Phillip Estate and Kooyong Wines offer a modernist setting and wide-ranging tastings.

Stay & Relax

With just 40 rooms, Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill offers a level of calm that’s rare. Suites are spread across courtyards and garden-facing wings, each space finished with generous materials, thoughtful lighting, and that quiet luxury that comes from knowing what matters. Balcony suites overlook the valley, while garden rooms open onto winding paths and mature trees. It’s the ideal Red Hill event venue for occasions big or small.

The breakfast menu includes hot dishes made to order, alongside a curated spread of local cheeses, house-baked pastries, Peninsula honey, and fresh juice – enough to fuel a day of cellar door visits or coastal walks without weighing you down.
